JAN 26 2010 // AFTER A STELLAR CD RELEASE SHOW THE BEECHFIELDS PRESENTS KADMAN

We are happy to announce the release of our second record of 2010, Kadman's These Old Bones. This is also Kadman's second LP and features a set of sonically dynamic landscapes tied to traditional slow-core pop songs. This marriage is impressive and highly enjoyable. This is one of those rare records that you have to listen to from start to finish and one that is impossible to put down once you have. Please enjoy over at our records page!

JAN 5, 2010 // THE HONEST MISTAKES BREAK UP IS HERE AND GETTING SOME GREAT REVIEWS!

You can purchase the new Honest Mistakes record, Break Up on our records page. Break Up is a record that uses strong melodies and a sardonic wit to simultaneously pull on the listener’s heart strings and evoke a sense of irony that is truly Baltimore. The technicolor experiences The Honest Mistakes paint on Break Up have both levity and dynamism, and because of this Break Up is, at its core, a really brilliant pop record. This is a fun record and the critics are digging it as much as we are, and that makes us smile.

DEC 23, 2009 // THE HONEST MISTAKES WILL RELEASE BREAK UP ON JAN 5, 2010 VIA THE BEECHFIELDS!

The moment is finally here! After years of waiting and much discussion, the anticipated debut release from the indie-pop outfit The Honest Mistakes will hit the interwebs on Tues. Jan 5th, 2010. This is a gem of a pop record, with 10 lovely and fun songs. Don't take our word for it, Jack Rabid from The Big Takeover says, "...this new band's debut is a mash of energetic power-pop and '90's Southern (think North Carolina) indie pop...think of any jangly, bright, bobby indie pop band you like and you are in the ballpark...not bad!"

NOV 3, 2009 // NEW TWIST & SHOUT BY GARY B & THE NOTIONS IS HERE

The highly awaited 2nd full-length from Baltimore's pop divas, Gary B & the Notions is now for sale. You will discover some very hummable tunes on this record, a strong follow up to 2007's "Get Those Crazy Notions!" We are super excited about this record and have been anticipating its release to the world for months. Well world, it is finally here-don't miss out on a classic!

OCTOBER 14, 2009 // A NEW TWIST & SHOUT BY GARY B & THE NOTIONS WILL BE HERE SOON!

We will be releasing the highly anticpated second full-length by Gary B & the Notions, New Twist & Shout, on November 3rd. Be sure to look out for this pop gem mixed by J Mendicino of Pretty & Nice.

Also, The Acoustic Pregnancy EP will be making it out to the world from Beechfields foundation artists, The Honest Mistakes.

JULY 7, 2009 // THE BEECHFIELDS RELEASES ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES BY JASON DOVE

The Beechfields Record Label presents you a new record from our indie-pop series by Jason Dove entitled Illegal Activities. Uplifting, unpretentious pop for a new generation of media-saturated slackers-Illegal Activities is Jason Dove’s third solo album and second to be recorded by legendary punk producer and engineer J. Robbins. In songs like “Big Red Truck”, “If You Think We Don’t Care”, and “Each and Everyone Of Us”, Jason uses clean pop melodies to convey a modern sense of yearning for connectedness and a disdain for the state of affairs in modern relationships. We are really excited about this record, as it expands our increasing library of indie-pop releases. This record compliments well the recent album by E. Joseph and The Phantom Heart and the coming Gary B. and The Notions record. Jason Dove is an accomplished songwriter and his talent for capturing interesting ideas in song is very evident here.  If you dig the pop sensibilities of Fountains of Wayne, Teenage Fanclub, The Minutemen, and Ben Folds Five, you will love Illegal Activities. You can purchase the new record here.

JUN 2, 2009 // THE BEECHFIELDS RELEASES LOST AND FOUND AND LOST BY THE SELDON PLAN

The Seldon Plan reemerges with whimsy with their highly anticipated album LOST AND FOUND AND LOST, a worthy follow-up to their 2007 record THE COLLECTIVE NOW. Praised for its “catchy simple melodies awash with lush vocals, hip full guitars, and a hint of Flaming Lips” by artist/composer Mark Degli Antoni (David Byrne/Soul Coughing) and dubbed “smart pop with no wasted space” by record producer Brian McTernan (Senses Fail/Piebald/Thrice), LOST AND FOUND AND LOST plays with images of childhood nostalgia to embrace the economic and political pendulum.

Calling their latest LP “a burst of new flavor”, The Big Takeover’s Jack Rabid expressed delight at the “Baltimore foursome’s continued maturation” and compared it favorably to “melodic pop favorites such as Feelies’ offshoot Wild Carnation, Winnipeg’s wonderful Weakerthans, great Scots Camera Obscura, and Portland’s Dimes”. You can purchase the group's third record HERE.

MAY 15, 2009 // FREE MP3 DOWNLOAD-THE GHOSTS AROUND YOU-BY E. JOSEPH AND THE PHANTOM HEART

We are proud to announce that E. Joseph and The Phantom Heart are providing a song for free download from their forthcoming new album, due late 2009. The title of the song is The Ghosts Around You. You can also pick up a maxi single of this song with bonus tracks directly from the band at live shows. Enjoy!

MAY 10, 2009 // WE WILL RELEASE LOST AND FOUND AND LOST ON JUNE 2ND!

We will release The Seldon Plan's third full-length record, Lost and Found and Lost on June 2nd. This new record features and all new line-up and has already been covered in an April Baltimore Sun article. The record was produced by Matthew Leffler Schulman and Michael Nestor at Mobtown Studios and was mastered by Bill Wolf at Wolf Productions.

JANUARY 13, 2009 // OUR FIRST RELEASE OF THE NEW YEAR, "DOG HANG LOW" BY RED SAMMY

Check out or first release of 2009, Red Sammy's Dog Hang Low. On this sophmore effort from Red Sammy, and the first Beechfields release-listeners will naturally relish Red Sammy’s signature rollercoaster lyrics, sounds and emotions. Red Sammy is singer/songwriter Adam Trice. “I’m experimenting more, not only with the music, but especially with the lyrics.” Trice said, “Dog Hang Low has a lot more range and dynamic shifts, even within individual songs. It can be quiet and intimate one moment, the next, bold and rocking. The lyrics are about the daily struggles all of us face, work—hard work—love and loss, the blessed and misfortunate. In the end,” Trice added, “no matter who we are, we all end up in the same place: the graveyard. It’s the collective commonality none of us can escape.”

Not to be missed, only 6 bucks!

NOV 30, 2008 // THANK YOU TO ALL OUR FANS FOR ANOTHER GREAT YEAR!

This has been a really topsy-turvy year for The Beechfields, but we are making it through!

We sent Small Sur off to fame at Tender Loving Empire — we have seen radical changes in our band line-up, including the break-up (and reunion) of some of our flagship bands — the addition of great new music from new artists — and Michael Nestor became a doctor this year! The great thing about the musicians on this label is that we are truly collective, and we ride the peaks and valleys of life together.

Each band has their own personal story about the year that they had — and they are all filled with tragedy and triumph. We hope we are bringing those experiences to you through our music and our stories. Thank you for supporting what we do...we hope to bring you the best music we can in a humble, unadulterated and passionate way.

Thank you to Al Shipley from The Baltimore City Paper for a nice write up about Neil Cotterill (Infinite Honey) and new Beechfields artist Mike Pursley at Mike's CD release party!

Look for new releases this year from: Among Wolves, Infinite Honey, Gary B. and The Notions, The Seldon Plan, and more. Also look for a new "MP3" downloads section. Here is to a great rest of 2008 and an exciting 2009!

New Beechfields singer-songwriter Mike Pursley will release his first extended EP on The Beechfields Record Label on Tuesday Nov. 11th, 2008. The EP represents a push by the label to get back to our lo-fi roots. This EP is a mixture of lo-fi and hi-fi recordings and makes for a wonderful listen!

In the songs on Eight Boxes, Mike takes us on a trip from the edges of Appalachia to the doorsteps of the eastern seaboard. He combines unique lyrics, lo-fi recording techniques and melodic songwriting into a brooding, uplifting and colorful record, reminiscent of 60’s psych-folk, but updated for the iPod generation. RIYL: Devendra Banhart, Sufjan Stevens, The Shins, The Magnetic Fields, Grenadine

DECEMBER 18, 2007 // THE BEECHFIELDS RELEASES THE COLLECTIVE NOW BY THE SELDON PLAN

We are excited to announce the release of the re-mastered and re-sequenced version of The Seldon Plan's The Collective Now. The new record made a national debut on The Magnatune Record Label in September and got so much buzz over there (you can read some of it here), that the band has decided to re-sequence the record back to the originally intended sequence, and re-master it to make it sound like it was originally intended. Why? Read this Baltimore Sun article to find out.

This is a Beechfields exclusive - not only will you be getting completely new artwork, but also a new sequence and extensive liner notes. All for only $5.00 plus shipping.

This new record has slowly been gaining the respect of fans by laying out what The Big Takeover descibes as "11 highly melodic, totally tuneful songs buttressed by rushing, bright guitars...that also alights on late period, nicer Superchunk and Tsunami." Amplifier Magazine suggests that, "The Collective Now, exude[s] an infectious stroke of grooviness not heard since Heavy Vegetable, Thingy, Pinback or The Swirlies."

You can read more about The Seldon Plan here and then purchase the record here. Thanks for all your support!

DECEMBER 09, 2007 // PRICE DROP ON PRIVATE ELEANOR CDs

We've dropped the price on Private Eleanor's two Beechfields CDs, Sweethearting and No Straight Lines! These critically-acclaimed albums will not be re-pressed when they're gone, so go get them now on our Records page!

OCTOBER 31, 2007 // HAVE YOU SEEN THE BEECHFIELDS IN THE OCTOBER URBANITE?

There is a nice discussion of the Beechfields Record Label in the October, 2007 Urbanite Magazine. Robbie Whelan reviews both the new Among Wolves record (he liked it!) and the new Pupa's Window/Chris and Joylene Show split (he liked that too!). Other than picking up the print version, which we recommend, you can read the online version here.

AUGUST 27, 2007 // PUPA'S WINDOW RE-RELEASES 'NET ONLY SONGS, AMONG WOLVES DOING WELL!

To celebrate the upcoming Beechfields Record Label compilation, and encouraged by good reviews of the split CD with The Honest Mistakes (formerly The Chris and Joylene Show), Pupa's Window is making two internet-only songs available for download on The Beechfields site: "Inflexion" and "Ponderance." On our records page, selected PW songs from the 2003 effort "Lost Voice, Found Voice: Repeat" have been made available for download.

PW is also announcing a MySpace-only EP to come out in February, 2007. The EP will consist of 4 songs and all liner notes and artwork will be only available on the album MySpace site.

The new Among Wolves CD has been been described as mixing "a little Beechwood Sparks, with a little Sadies and a touch of Jayhawks to get at their hybrid sunny California-jangle-pop meets midwestern americana rock." by Songs: Illinois. You should purchase a copy today here.

AUGUST 1, 2007 // PRIVATE ELEANOR ON MAGNET SAMPLER

We've also added an mp3 of our recent interview about the label on WTMD, in case you missed it when it aired. Head to the Information page for the link. It's a pretty nice interview about the community/artists'-collective aspects of the label.

MAY 13, 2007 // NEW REVIEWS AND PRAISE FOR THE BEECHFIELDS!

"The Baltimore-based Beechfields label [is] definitely on my list of favorite collectives right now. They just can’t seem to do wrong at the moment." –Palebear.com

That's just one of our favorite quotes from a bunch of great recent reviews of Beechfields acts! All five of the records we've released so far this year have been getting some fine reviews... You can check out a sampling of any record's reviews by going to our Records page and clicking on the Reviews link in the right column. Congrats to the bands. We think you'll like their records as much as the reviewers do!

APRIL 24, 2007 // NEW PRIVATE ELEANOR ALBUM OUT NOW!

We are extremely proud to announce the release of the new album from Baltimore's Private Eleanor! Sweethearting, the band's fourth full-length record, is their most confident and direct effort yet. This is a remarkable set of songs, full of sly hooks and sparkling textures, gorgeous boy/girl harmonies and oblique-but-evocative storytelling. At various points, they manage to conjure Mojave 3 produced by Wilco, or Simon & Garfunkel fronting the Dismemberment Plan, or Yo La Tengo tackling your favorite Neil Young and Big Star songs. We love this album and we think you will too: This is a record you need to hear. Get it now on our Records page!

APRIL 23, 2007 // BEECHFIELDS ON WTMD RADIO!

The latest great new release of our busy 2007... We're happy to present the new split full-length CD from The Chris and Joylene Show and pupa's window, entitled A Family Portrait. It's a collection of warm and inviting folk/pop -- thirteen bittersweet musical essays on love, loss, growing old, and triumph. These two artists have a long history of helping one another create music, and this is the first release in several years from either act. We can't think of a better way to reintroduce them both. Check it out now on the Records page! Special low price of only $5!

MARCH 13, 2007 // STALKING HORSES ALBUM RELEASE!

The Stalking Horses' Beechfields debut, entitled This Is Your Signal, is out now and available right here on our Records page! The Stalking Horses combine intelligent songcraft, "blissfully ragged melodicism" (Baltimore Magazine) and straight-forward rock & roll. You can preview a couple tracks at their myspace page or download some free mp3s right here on our Records page. Then go ahead and pick up a copy!

FEBRUARY 27, 2007 // NEIL COTTERILL DEBUT CD OUT TODAY!

Neil Cotterill's debut album, Moonshot, is released today, Feb 27, on the Beechfields! Check out some mp3s and buy the CD on our Records page!

The songs on Moonshot are explorations of the psyche. Mixing vintage acoustic tones with otherworldly Moog synth sounds, Neil turns observations of the everyday mundane into a sensory wonderland of sorts. Fans of Stephen Malkmus, The Microphones, Helium, and Daniel Johnston will absolutely love it. We're excited about this record and we think you will be too!

In other news, we have an exciting few months ahead, with new releases from The Stalking Horses, The Chris and Joylene Show, pupa's window, and Private Eleanor – plus music from two other new additions to the Beechfields family, Among Wolves and the Red Vines. It's going to be a busy year! Check back soon for more!

JANUARY 27, 2007 // A CAT CALLED CRICKET WILL RELEASE THEIR DEBUT CD ON 02/06/07

The Beechfields is pleased to announce the release of the debut CD Here Comes Another Melody by Baltimore-area folk-rockers A Cat Called Cricket. The CD will be released to the public on Tuesday Feb 6, 2007 and will be available for sale on our records page then.

Starting off as the brainchild of Alex Champagne in 2004, A Cat Called Cricket has brought together rhythmic guitars and sweeping cello lines to create an upbeat and catchy indie-folk mix. This quartet from Baltimore has built momentum with their layered melodies and campfire choruses, with instrumentation as clean and natural as the landscapes their songs evoke.

Here Comes Another Melody is for anyone who enjoys good, warm clean music - be it Wilco, Cat Power, Great Lake Swimmers, Rachel's, or Matt Pond PA.

DECEMBER 14, 2006 // WE WELCOME THE STALKING HORSES, NEWS ON RELEASES!

OCTOBER 31, 2006 // OFFICIAL RELEASE OF BROTHER JOHN - AVERAGE

We're excited to present some new records to the world this fall and winter. First up is Brother John's new opus of electronic/pop songcraft, Average (Part One): Numerator. This record is a slight departure stylistically from the last few records we've put out, but it fits right into our philosophy of music made with passion and care. We just added some free mp3 samples to the Records page so you can hear for yourself!

The next few months will see new releases from A Cat Called Cricket, The Chris and Joylene Show, pupa's window, and Neil Cotterill... Again, we'll be adding more info and media for these records soon... We can't wait for you all to hear them!

In other news, our "sister label" OTPRecords has become officially affiliated with us. Austin from OTP has come on board to help with some of The Beechfields' day-to-day operations, and in turn we'll be helping out OTP as they transition to being a less-active label. We're excited about this new arrangement, and hopefully it'll help us get even more great music out into the world!

Let us know what you think of the revamped site, and if there's anything we can do better.
We'd love to hear from you: info [at] thebeechfields.com

FEBRUARY 7, 2006 // OFFICAL RELEASE OF SMALL SUR'S SELF TITLED EP

The much anticipated release from Small Sur has happened. The EP is a brilliant piece of Americana meets Nick Drake, almost like reading Whitman in the summertime. You can purchase the EP on the records page.

DECEMBER 19, 2005 // NEW RECORDS IN THE NEW YEAR!

We are awaiting the much anticipated arrival of the Small Sur record, which should be here shortly after the new year, with a CD release party to follow. Stay tuned for this.
