Starting off as the brainchild of Alex Champagne in 2004, A
Cat Called Cricket has brought together rhythmic guitars
and sweeping cello lines to create an upbeat and catchy indie-folk
mix. This quartet from Baltimore has built momentum with their
layered melodies and campfire choruses, with instrumentation as
clean and natural as the landscapes their songs evoke.
A Cat Called Cricket's songs are personal affairs that draw the
listener in and reveal a world of beautiful simplicity. Their
sound is not trying to break new ground, nor is it too safe -
it is simple, and refeshingly so. Their debut record, Here
Comes Another Melody, is ready for listeners to
engage and interpret for themselves. It's more than just a collection
of songs; it is an enveloping canvas upon which carefully laid
brushstrokes of melody and intelligent instrumentation present
a beautiful and enjoyable picture.
Here Comes Another Melody is a record you can give to
your friends and know they will like it. It is a record that is
not trying to be what it is not, but in that Thoreauesque way,
it just is. Anyone who enjoys good, warm clean music
- be it Wilco, Cat Power, Great Lake Swimmers, Rachel's, or Matt
Pond PA - will love this record and the immense talent of A Cat
Called Cricket.
A new, exclusive track from the band appears on The Beechfields'
2008 compilation CD, This City of
Neighborhoods.
