Kadman originated as the solo project of David Manchester,
but since 2006 Kadman has grown into a solid and dynamic
band pushing their intense yet delicate sound through
Baltimore speakers. The band is James Bahleda who plays
both electric and standup bass, banjo, various synthesizers
and home-made electronic devices, drummer Frank Corl,
and David Manchester on guitar and vocals.
With the release of their second full-length record, These
Old Bones, Kadman has blossomed and come of age.
These Old Bones is a haunting and beautiful record,
sometimes re-creating the minimalist experimentalism of Yo
La Tengo and the crystalline beauty of Low. As the
record envelopes the listener with tracks like "An Army Rises"
and "Anything", Manchester's stellar attention to sonic detail
while keeping a downtempo pop sensibility begins to reveal
elements of Antony and the Johnsons and Sun Kil Moon,
leaving the listener with a truly original record that is both
chilling and comforting.
This record has the rare quality of being both dense and
dreamy, intense and delicate, haunting and beautiful. It is
these contrasting dichotomies that make These Old Bones
such a joy to listen to-to let go and just listen. If you enjoy a
record that you can really step inside of and spend the
afternoon exploring its depths, then you will absolutely love
These Old Bones.
