The three members of Masters of the Universe grew up in Frederick,
Maryland, and came together to forge an exciting blend of funk,
rock, and roots. Their songs will get you moving at first listen
and freak you out the second. This is original funk-folk with
a twisted novelty that echoes, in equal parts, Talking Heads,
The Band, and Prince. The goal is to describe an alien universe
more familiar than your bedroom yet more eerie than a Lovecraft
dreamscape, then make you dance your face off there.
These guys are a great addition to The Beechfields. They bring
a funky, soulful and light atmosphere to the label. Fans of acts
as diverse as Yo La Tengo, Neil Young, Earth Wind and Fire, Wilco,
Steely Dan and Joe Cocker will all find plenty to love on their
debut Don't Block The Box.
