The Red Vines began in early 2004 as Ryan Finnerin,
his studio, and a bunch of wonderfully crafted songs, reminiscent
of Todd Rundgren’s 70’s album-oriented pop but with
a modern flavor – much like if Elliott Smith had The Autumn
Defense as his backing band. (In fact, The Red Vines first live
gig was opening for The Autumn Defense in 2005.) Over the next
few years Ryan and his backing band have played a number of stages
around Baltimore to test new material for their Beechfields Record
Label debut: Everyday Needles for Electromagnetic Lovers.
The current band (Denny Finnerin, Micah Huerta, Neil Cotterill,
Jason Butcher and Eric Bloodsworth) – which includes members
from other Beechfields bands Among Wolves and Infinite Honey –
give us on Everyday Needles for Electromagnetic Lovers
a fresh, modern and delightful indie-pop mash up of late 70's
psychedelia and AM radio gold. This record is sunny California
painted up east coast style, reminiscent of bands like Tram, Turin
Brakes, Wilco, Spoon, Elliott Smith and Grandaddy.
