So, what is a stalking horse? A "stalking horse" is a candidate
initiating debate and challenge, to benefit a third party. The beneficiaries
in this case are the audiences, loyal fans and strangers alike. With their
lyrical crunch, muscular guitars, and irresistibly catchy hooks, The Stalking
Horses are a recent addition to the dynamic Beechfields family.
The Stalking Horses were born all because former Disappear Records recording
artist Sarah Pinsker got tired of playing solo, plugged her acoustic guitar
into a DOD stompbox and recruited a band from the DC post-punk scene and
the Baltimore rock clubs, combining intelligent songcraft, "blissfully
ragged melodicism" (Baltmore Magazine) and straight-forward rock
& roll.
Sarah assembled a band of Baltimore area journeyman-rockers including
Jes Welter, Tony Calato, and Chris Plummer (formerly of The Shelleycoats
and June Star). The current lineup has been playing clubs and festivals
for almost two years now, with highlights including Baltimore's Artscape,
Houston Pride, and Seattle’s Rockrgrl Conference. The Stalking Horses
have gained a reputation for their energetic live show, playing bills
from New York to Texas with Antigone Rising, Michelle Malone and more.
After working in the studio on and off for the past year, The Stalking
Horses are excited and ready to release their first full-length recording
on The Beechfields Record Label.
The band's live energy is transformed into a massive wall of studio sound
that propels singer Sarah Pinsker's road-worn tales of fragile and enchanted
characters enacting a dream rehearsal of your life.
The new record is for fans of The Afghan Whigs, Lucinda Williams, Neil
Gaiman, and Regina Spektor - full of heartbreaking melody and joyful noise.
We suggest you buy bigger speakers - you'll want to play it loud.
