Imagine yourself standing on the shores of Prettyboy Reservoir,
ready to take the plunge. An unmanned canoe, encouraged only slightly
by the breeze, floats lazily past. Its wake transports tiny bits
of trees, shrubs, and soil bound for the crevices between your
toes. Breathe. Take a look around. If it feels like there’s
something missing, there is.
Conceived on the cliffs of Yosemite, given legs in San Salvador,
and currently living as a migrant in Charm City, Small Sur is
made up of an ever-changing cast of musicians, artists, and vagabonds.
Their music is warm, comforting, and quietly forceful, like an
old friend.
The debut 8-song extended EP from Small Sur (released by The
Beechfields in 2006) is an intimate collection of folk/country
gems laced with viola, subtle vocal harmonies, and lots of love.
[The EP was limited to 100 copies, and is now out of print. Small
Sur's new full-length album will be released on Portland's Tender
Loving Empire label in August 2008.]
